NDIS- National Disability Insurance Scheme

Lets talk about some frequently asked questions.

What Is the NDIS?

The NDIS is the ‘National Disability Insurance Scheme’, and is designed to provide funding to people living with disabilities, to help them enhance their quality of life. The NDIA ‘National Disability Insurance Agency’ is responsible for managing all things NDIS.

How many people are on the NDIS?

The NDIS now supports over 500,000 Australians with a disability! This includes approximately 80,000 children with developmental delay.

How do I access NDIS?

If you have a disability, or believe you would meet the criteria to apply for NDIS funding, you need to complete an application with your GP/ Medical professional and then have help from your early childhood partner (under 9 years old) or local area coordinator if you are over 9, to submit this to NDIS with your evidence. The first step is to check out the NDIS website and look at the ‘applying’ tab, for all NDIS info about joining.

What funding do I need for support workers?

For NDIS support workers, you need to have CORE funding in your NDIS plan, this can look like:

  • Core Supports - Assistance with Daily Life: This is the main category for daily tasks, such as cleaning, cooking, and personal care.

  • Core Supports - Social and Community Participation: Used for support workers to help you attend social events, appointments, or activities.
